Inconvenient Truths, Inconvenient Outcomes

The Liberal Australian government pulls out a surprise win Down Under!! WTF!? Australia Election Results: Prime Minister Scott Morrison Seizes a Stunning Win.

Scott Morrison, Australia’s conservative prime minister, scored a surprise victory in federal elections on Saturday, propelled by a populist wave — the “quiet Australians,” he termed it — resembling the force that has upended politics in the United States, Britain and beyond.

The win stunned Australian election analysts — polls had pointed to a loss for Mr. Morrison’s coalition for months. But in the end, the prime minister confounded expectations suggesting that the country was ready for a change in course after six years of tumultuous leadership under the conservative political coalition.

What on earth happened down there?

The election had presented Australia, a vital American ally in the Asia-Pacific, with a crucial question: Would it remain on a rightward path and stick with a political coalition that promised economic stability, jobs and cuts to immigration or choose greater action on climate change and income inequality?

I understand that Labor teamed up with the Green Weenie contingent and made global warming their main focus. All the polls predicting Labor’s win might suggests that there was a whole lot of virtue signaling going on for benefit of the pollsters but the peeps just aren’t really buying it.

By granting Mr. Morrison his first full term, Australians signaled their reluctance to bet on a new leader, choosing to stay the course with a hardworking rugby lover at a time when the economy has not suffered a recession in nearly 28 years.

Those stupid, stupid people! Don’t they know that after 28 years they need a recession!

Reports said support for the conservative came from outer suburban seats with demographics similar to America's rural rust belt.

The victory signals a continued foothold for the troubled conservative party, for which Morrison ran on a message of economic security and development. BI

I repeat, what is wrong with those stupid people, choosing economic security and development over an inconvenient truth.

What can I say? It appears that once again the Neo-Nazis, populists and haters teamed up with the Russians to steal an election that everybody knew Labor was going to win. In fact everybody was so certain about Labor’s win that Sportsbet got a bit ahead of themselves. File this under “don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched.”

Sportsbet will lose at least $5.2 million thanks to its decision to pay out early on Bill Shorten winning Saturday's federal election as large bookmakers again had to admit they had misread the political landscape.

When asked if they regretted the decision to pay out early after “punters” determined that Labor would win 82 seats to the Coalition’s 63, Sportsbet spokesman Richard Hummerston said:

"The quality of toilet paper and stationery will need to be significantly decreased at the Sportsbet offices to cover these costs and we can only keep the heaters on for two hours a day, but in the end, we have a result where most of our punters on a market are winners."

Ironically, if the Labor/Green Weenie coalition had won they still would have had to significantly decrease the quality of their toilet paper – as well as the quantity. And they would have been lucky to have their heaters on for even two hours a day.

All I’m going to say is that the Lefty Aussies seem better equipped to handle defeat than their American counterparts who are still wearing their pussy hats and resisting nearly 3 years later.

You certainly can’t accuse them of not being committed.

P.S. I should note that the Liberal Party is the conservative party in Australia  - because Down Under everything is upside down, eh mate? The Labor Party however - like everywhere - represents all the people who don’t…labor, that is.
