Michigan Needs More Blue Dogs

WTF, Governor Grunhilda?

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer just extended Michigan’s stay-at-home order for the 5th time, this time until June 12 and the state of emergency until June 19.

Despite declaring that we’ve flattened the curve, Whitmer said the extension is about avoiding a second wave of coronavirus.

It’s not like she didn’t warn her subjects that they would pay for that protests against her authority. First on April 17th:

Thousands Protest Michigan Governor's Social Distance Order | U.S. ...

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said Thursday evening that the "irresponsible actions" of protesters in her state this week could lead to an extension of stay-at-home orders. Demonstrators descended on the state Capitol in Lansing Wednesday after Whitmer extended Michigan's stay-at-home order through April 30.

"It's that kind of irresponsible action that puts us in this situation where we might have to actually think about extending stay-at-home orders, which is supposedly what they protesting," Whitmer, a Democrat, said in an interview with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow. CBS

True to her word, she then extended the Lockdown and Emergency Order until May 15th. But the hoi polloi refused to heed her warnings and returned again on May 14 while the legislature was in session – some of them armed (!) –

to protest against the governor's stay-at-home order, arguing that it impinges on their personal freedoms, and they want to return to work.

Such ungrateful riffraff, who do they think they are anyway? So Grunhilda warned them again, and to prove she could she signed an executive order extended the lockdown until again through May 28th. That was one day after Republican state lawmakers sued the Guv over a previous extension of Michigan's state of emergency, arguing that she had usurped power from the state legislature.

Apparently emboldened when a Court of Claims Judge sided with her against the Legislature she decided to eff with her subjects again and announced yesterday that, by Gubernatorial edict, the Stay At Home order has again been extended until June 12th. Despite having flattened the curve. Despite having just announced the day before several changes to the stay-at-home order that has been in place since March, “allowing” social gatherings of 10 people or less and telling retail retail businesses they can reopen to customers for shopping by appointment. Some people might find these edicts confusing and contradictory, but I guess that’s because they’re stupid or something.

Oh, and also by edict the Guv lifted constraints in the UP and certain tourist-heavy areas like Traverse City/Leelanau in norther Michigan where as of 12:01 a.m. yesterday, bars, restaurants and other businesses and offices to open to customers.

So peons, you can just stay home and fire up the BBQ this holiday weekend, secure in the knowledge that your Governor will be relaxing at her summer home in northern Michigan. Oh, and she’ll be having a graduation party for her daughter. How nice.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think what this country needs a new meme. Karen has been maligned enough. It’s time for a Gretchen. Sort of a cross between a Lucy Van Pelt,

and the devil in the Blue Dress.

Fabulous prize for the best meme submission!

Because Michigan doesn’t need just any wrinkly blue dog; what we really need are more Reagan Blue Dog Democrats.

Friday Is Meaningless When Nobody Goes To Work Anymore

Here it is, Friday again…already. How can an entire week go by so quickly in such abnormal times?

It’s a good thing it’s a long holiday weekend as I’ve reached my capacity for stupidity, lies, fake news, and mindless lockdowns. No, that’s not true; my capacity has been exceeded, by far. I’m now totally supportive of civil disobedience in any manner you deem appropriate.

The Federalist

How ironic that we’re headed into a weekend holiday dedicated to the remembrance of those who gave their lives to defend the freedoms that up until now we’ve pretty much taken for granted.

"Simply put, there is no pandemic exception to the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights."

That’s it. That’s all I have to say today on the matter of the government’s ongoing destruction of lives and livelihoods.Freedom Is Just Another Word…

I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow…well no, I’m not sure, but hopeful. A news-free 4 day weekend might help; please feel free to carry on without me.

Following The Advice of Geniuses

It has been brought to my attention that the World Health Organization would like us to stop using the term “social distancing” and instead replace it with the term they now prefer, “physical distancing.”

If the WHO wants it I’d say reason enough to stick with the stupid “social distancing” term. I’d also like to point out that the “experts” have now reversed themselves on pretty near everything they have recommended since the WhuHoo Flu first hit the airwaves. We should not be surprised, as we live in a world where most words coming from officials and celebrities have no meaning anyway.

The phrase “social distancing” has always sounded like a gibberish term for “keep your distance.” It’s far too much like Gwyneth Paltrow and then husband Chris Martin’s “Conscious Uncoupling” back in 2014:

What is conscious uncoupling? Don't call it a divorce...it's an ...

Conscious uncoupling is a euphemism for getting divorced, or breaking up if you never bothered to get hitched in the first place.

Conscious uncoupling refers to the act of ending a marriage or relationship, but in a way that is viewed as a very positive step by both parties, who believe that their lives will be better for doing so, and that they can continue to remain friends, co-parent if they have children, and possibly not even fall out of love with each other.

And if you can do that it makes one wonder why they’re breaking up in the first place; but with experts and celebrities ours is not to wonder why, ours is simply to heel and comply.

But perhaps we should follow the advice and virtue signaling practices of the genius who started her own vanity company called “GOOP” and presented us with so many good ideas for improving our lives over the years.

Look Quickly Or You’re Likely To Miss Our Shooting Star

Don’t get me wrong, we’d be happy to get rid of her. But America doesn’t deserve Grunhilda.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Midland County after the Edenville and Sanford dams breached on Tuesday, May 19.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has confirmed she is in talks with Joe Biden’s campaign to become his running mate, as the race to join his ticket reaches an unseen fever pitch.

“I’ve had a conversation with some folks,” Whitmer said in a Tuesday morning interview on the “Today” show.

Nothing better than folksy, female VP.

A rising star in the Democratic Party who has garnered national headlines through her handling of the Wolverine State’s COVID-19 outbreak, Whitmer is considered one of several women on the shortlist to join Biden’s ticket.

Clipart explosion rising star, Clipart explosion rising star ...Two thumbs up for tyrannical leadership! You know you want it!

A rising Democrat star is required to talk out of both sides of their mouth, a basic skill that Grunhilda has already mastered. A self-described rape survivor who told other survivors last December  “I see you, I hear you, I believe you …I carry you in my heart every day, and I’ll never stop fighting for you.” It looks like her fight for them ends where her fight for lead survivor and Vice Presidential nominee begins however.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer expressed doubts about sexual assault allegations a former U.S. Senate aide has made against presumed Democratic presidential  nominee Joe Biden, in an interview aired on national TV early Friday.

"The Joe Biden I know, these stories are inconsistent with what I know and what I've seen, in terms of work that he's done to support women," Whitmer said on ABC's "Nightline," when asked about the allegations made against Biden by Tara Reade. - Detroit Free Press.

Meanwhile, Governor Grunhilda had to retract her mandated lockdown, stay at home order still in place for most of Michigan yesterday, at least for residents of Midland, MI, and issue an evacuation order instead.

Urging residents to evacuate and saying downtown Midland could be under 9 feet of water by Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer late Tuesday declared a state of emergency for Midland County after the Edenville and Sanford dams breached.

She said that despite those orders generally telling people to stay home, it was important that anyone living in the affected areas evacuate as quickly as possible to safer areas, or go to the homes of relatives and friends.

We’ll see how high Michigan’s rising star gets before its inevitable re-entry.

Clarence Thomas: Borked But Not Silenced

I turned my local PBS station last night for the sole purpose of recording the premier of the documentary, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas In His Own Words. And “his own words” are powerful indeed: I watched the entire show.

Justice Clarence Thomas, Generation Z, and Me | Ellis Washington ...

Perhaps it was Justice Thomas’ voice itself, resonant, measured and mesmerizing. Or perhaps it was the surprise of finding a PBS offering that didn’t reflexively trash the Chief Court Justice just because he is a conservative.

David Zurawik of The Baltimore Sun reveals the Left’s take on the documentary in the title of his review: If you want a one-sided, right-wing, celebratory version of the life of Clarence Thomas, PBS has just the ticket. Yes, PBS

“Clarence Thomas’ story is a classic American Horatio Alger story, coming from dire poverty in the segregated South to the highest court in the land.”

“It is a remarkable journey with him coming from further behind than almost any American political figure, especially when you take into account the segregation and racism he suffered,” the filmmaker continued. “His intellectual journey is also remarkable … from being raised by his grandfather and Irish nuns with traditional hard work values, to rejecting those values and then finally coming back to them later in his life.”

The Left of course hates the PBS piece because it gives voice to the black man they viciously but unsuccessfully tried to “Bork.”  Simply because they feared he was out of step with their vision of “women’s rights” which, then as now, seems to start and end with abortion.

“I was OK with the education-of-a-young-man narrative that drove the film from Thomas’ childhood to Catholic school and then the seminary and college life.”

That’s big of him. But the moment Thomas shows signs of being an independent thinker and going off the plantation of the Left’s making, David Zurawik begins to have problems:

“It’s when Thomas enters the realm of American politics as President Ronald Reagan’s chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity in 1982 and then the Supreme Court nominee of President George H.W. Bush that the one-sided, in-his-own-words approach became seriously problematic to me.”

Of course it was “seriously problematic,” it isn’t the Left’s usual portrayal of Thomas as a sexual predator. If you can watch this documentary and conclude that Anita Hill was the one telling the truth, not Justice Thomas, you probably believed Justice Cavanaugh is a serial rapist too. That this despicable tactic of accusing decent men of sexual predatory behavior has been deployed against conservatives since 1991 is the real story here, and one that is largely ignored by the media. As Justice Thomas eloquently reminds us when he referred to his treatment in the Senate confirmation hearing as a “high-tech lynching,” this type of allegation has been leveled against black men forever.

But Mr. Zurawik continues:

If you want a two-hour production that feels more like hagiography than what I think of as a documentary with balancing voices, then “Created Equal” is for you. The question is whether such a one-sided, “in his own words” version of the life of a figure as controversial as Thomas is what public television should be offering in prime time.

Goodness no, the only hagiographies worthy of PBS prime time are those of Democrat torchbearers like Ted, “the Lion” Kennedy, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and whoever ends up running as the Democrat candidate for president this year.

Hillary Makes Her Move, Frontline PBS, September 2016

PBS is streaming this for the next 14 days, as well as running it from time to time on your local channel. Or you can watch it below. It’s worth your time, if only to see a member of the highest court in the land who actually reveres the Constitution of the United States as written.

Unscripted and without narration, the documentary takes the viewer through (Justice Thomas’) complex and often painful life, dealing with race, faith, power, jurisprudence, and personal resilience.

Monday Moanin’ Post: Hide Before the Sun Goes Down Edition

“My Freedom Doesn’t End Where Your Fear Begins”

I remain surprised by how small the protests around the country against lockdowns have been. I would think that half the country would converge on their state capitals to voice their objections to the continued lockdown and subsequent destruction of the economy “for our own good.” The fact that so few are demanding their rights leaves me shaken and stirred.

Perhaps it’s too many sleepless nights and the endless repetitive days but my optimism is wavering as I watch the continuing acquiescence of what seems like the majority of the country’s populace. For God’s sake people, wake up and go back to work!

Hide again when the sun goes down if you feel you must.

Escape the Madness

It’s Sunday. Let’s play “transport me there” – your perfect place to enjoy a quiet day. It needn’t be real, just someplace you can visualize. Here’s mine:

A couple of books, a thermos of coffee, a jug of water, a few pastries and a sandwich or two  - you know you could stay here from sunup to sunset.

Oh sure, you can hear the loons in the distance, but just ignore them for today.

Where would you go to avoid the madness of it all?
