I turned on the news this morning just long enough to determine that there is no news other than Irma…and to conclude that I don’t like Clayton’s replacement.
Irma seems determined to wreak havoc somewhere, or more likely everywhere in Florida and once again we are brought to our knees in the face of a power far greater than the government.
So this is all I can add to everyone’s hurricane preparation check list:
There are apparently a million recipes for Hurricanes. Some are blue, some contain odd ingredients like Galliano and Blue CuraƧao and fruit juices ranging from passion fruit to orange, pineapple and I even saw one recipe that called for Hawaiian Punch – do they even make that anymore?
As a result of the many various ingredients Hurricanes (the drink) come in every color of the rainbow - red, orange, pink, and blue. But the classic (and best) is a rather unimpressive muddy brown served straight up rather than in the Mardi Gras style hurricane glass above, made famous at Pat O’Brian’s in New Orleans.
2 oz dark rum
1 oz passion fruit syrup
1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juiceCombine all ingredients in a shaker over ice. Shake and strain into an ice-filled glass. (The original recipe calls for crushed ice, but I prefer this with cubed, since the drink doesn't get diluted as quickly.) Garnish with an orange slice and cherry.
Prayers for all of the MOTI in harms way. Take cover, keep your oil lanterns burning, and report in as soon as you can.
Be safe my friends.
