Our Strategy Going FORWARD: Lift and Separate

With all the big news around Washington this week I really fell down on the job. I completely forgot to report on the lovely little Congressional picnic we held the night before the BFD.

bo mo picnicMO’s picnic frock with built in boob belt and signature non-matchy flats.

And boy, do I feel the fool! After all these many years of refracting, reflecting and deflecting Lady M in every conceivable light, it just now occurred to me: the purpose of the boob belt! Like so many things, with hindsight it’s completely obvious – lift and separate! In order to showcase your assets, I guess.

It’s sort of like a metaphor for Big Guy’s historical presidency too; lift the restraints imposed by the Constitution and separate – by “class,” race, sexual preference, and intellect.  Score-O! Although I don’t know how that showcases our assets any more than Lady M’s boob belt, butt I’m still working on it.

Of course, full-figured gals have been “lifting and separating” their assets for decades with Playtex;

jane_russell_the_outlaw_300christina_hendricks_5-249x325

Butt when most of your assets have been transferred to uh… shall we say a “satellite” location the “boob belt” may provide more utility than a traditional over the shoulder boulder holder, if you know what I mean.

Of course, as we’ve discussed so often before, sometimes these things seem like a much better idea on the design board -

boobbelt hits

than in final execution:

boob belt fail

Kind of like with Obamacare.

obamacare

Anyway, for Lady M the biggest problem with the proper application and utilization of the boob belt seems to be with the “lift” part;

hula3_thumb_thumb

what we keep ending up with is not so much “lift” as “divide” and separate. That concept might work pretty well in politics:

fast and furiousFast and Furious? Only racists ask questions, get it?

Nancy and 100 members of the Black Caucus refuse to participate in racist vote:

pelosi_blackcaucus_ap_img

Butt “divide and separate” in couture? May not always be a successful strategy.

Sorry! Where did these pictures come from!?!

Anyway, enough fashion commentary. As you know our nation is under fire.

I mean in Colorado. Big Guy went to tour the damaged area yesterday, and tweeted about it:

What? No, wait -that’s the wrong one! Here you go:

Uh, no, that’s not it either. I can’t seem to find Big Guy’s tweets about the wild fires destroying Colorado. Butt here are some pictures of the devastation.

According to the press pool though, Big Guy was there for a photo op surveying the damage.

Winning: It isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Yesterday was full of stunning decisions:

First, of course, the Supreme Court delivered their decision on Obamacare(Thumbs up) and the Commerce Clause (Thumbs down) – more on that later.

Also announced yesterday, Lady M’s Opinion on the Separation of Church and State.

mo perfect fit African Methodist Episcopal Church general conferenceDressed for success with the church ladies

At a conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Nashville, Tennessee Lady M, surprisingly, gave it (separation of church and state) a big Thumbs down:

"To anyone who says that church is no place to talk about these issues, you tell them there is no place better – no better place. Because ultimately, these are not just political issues - they are moral issues."

This is huge! Lady M continues…

Today, while there are no more 'whites only' signs keeping us out, no one barring our children from the schoolhouse door, we know our journey is far from finished."

The new hurdle? Bad schools, unhealthy diet, unsafe neighborhoods. The solution: diet, exercise and turning the TV off.

So there you have it: Lady M has spoken, and just like that, the separation of church and state clause has been struck down! Here’s the lead: “Lady M supports George W. Bush’s Faith Based Initiatives!” At least through the reelection.

I guess that means that we are now free to display crèches, crosses and the Ten Commandments in the court house again!

OK boys – you can bring ‘em back!

Tencommandments4WEB We’ll just continue to pretend they’re not here.

Next up, in the House, there was the “misguided and politically motivated” vote to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress. After the vote Ricky explained, helpfully, to the press why he – the chief law officer of the land - should remain above the law:

"Today’s vote is the regrettable culmination of what became a misguided — and politically motivated — investigation during an election year. By advancing it over the past year and a half, Congressman Issa and others have focused on politics over public safety."

He went on to explain how Chairman Issa and other Republicans:

“…have devoted their time and attention to making reckless charges — unsupported by fact — and to advancing truly absurd conspiracy theories.”

Uh…I hate to point this out, butt isn’t that the basis for the whole squabble that led to the contempt charges in the first place? The the fact that Ricky refused to release the precise documents that the Committee believes will support their charges with “facts?”  All the circular arguments going on around Washington are beginning to make me woozy.

Meanwhile, former House Speaker San Fran Nan and John Lewis, iconic civil rights leader (although not a community organizer), took a page from the Wisconsin legislators’ little book of evasive techniques and fled the scene.

wisc legislatureLast call for the bus to the Illinois border: all Democrats should be aboard!

They led 100 fellow Democrat Congress-weasels in a staged principled fit of pique protest.

A principled action, not a “misguided, politically motivated” photo op

Minority Whip Steny Hoyer made it perfectly clear that the Democrats occupied the moral high ground on this issue: “This is not about race. It is, however, about confrontation over cooperation.” I don’t think the Republicans would disagree with any part of that; they also claim it has nothing to do with race, and agree that it’s a confrontation over Ricky’s lack of cooperation. So I’m not sure I quite understand the grounds for disagreement or the point of the protest.

It’s probably because I was so distracted by all the blowback from the Supreme Court decision and wasn’t paying close enough attention.

Fortunately, Clarice – American Thinker author, D.C. attorney and resident MOL - was all over the case. Here’s her final analysis; it’s an OUTSTANDING review of why yesterday’s Supreme Court Decision isn’t as bad as you might think. DO NOT and I mean NOT miss Clarice’s Pieces today on American Thinker (I know it’s not Sunday yet, butt this is BIG): Obamacare: ‘Things Are Now Up For Grabs.’

It will help put things in perspective, make you feel better and load you up for the long game. As Mary first mentioned yesterday, Clarice elaborates on how the barn door on the Commerce Clause has finally been closed (after we lost most of our ponies, butt still…) and points out few things that you may not have thought about yet, including, butt not limited to this:

The ball is now in the Republicans' court. They've already scheduled a repeal vote on July 11. Once before the Democrat-controlled Senate was able to scotch the effort by threat of filibuster. Had the mandate stood as mandate they could do so again. But now that it's a tax, it can be passed by a simple majority. And if it is, the president will be forced before the election to veto a repeal  of a law  a majority of the voters keep indicating they want repealed.

john-robertsWhat’s your game Justice Roberts, Checkers or Chess?

And now, your marching orders:

Call or write your senator to demand repeal – make Big Guy veto it

UPDATE: This just in. Clarice sent this link to an article by Mickey Kaus explaining the Senate rules on budget reconciliation and how the ObamaTax individual mandate can be repealed and avoid filibuster.

Good “Buy” America

“Where in the constitution does authority reside for the Affordable Care act? Are you serious?” Do you think that makes any difference?

bo and pooh

The Supreme Court Ruling could have gone in one of several directions:

  1. If you like your Health Care plan, you can keep your Health Care plan.
  2. If you like OUR Health Care plan, you can keep OUR Health Care plan.
  3. Whether you like OUR Health Care plan or not, you can’t keep your Health Care plan.
  4. If you like your Health Care plan, tough s**t, amigo.

They chose #2, 3 and 4.

Very little else to add to that other than to reiterate our brilliant residential constitution scholar – no not Big Guy, Little Joe – this is “a big f*#@ing deal!”

So congratulations Big Guy, you really are the Won!

And the Once. The only possible way to view this is that it will make it easier for Romney to win in November.

Oh, and congratulations New World Order government types too! We’re ‘wich ya now!

We break away from Constitutional hijinks for this fashion update

Wow! We had the A-Team out covering the waterfront yesterday: Big Guy hit Atlanta and  Miami, Lady M, Chicago, JoeyB, Waterloo (Iowa) and Dr. Jill  stayed right here in D.C. to cover home plate.

And since we’ve been so busy lately with all the heavy lifting associated with contempt charges, money problems, security leaks and uncooperative poll numbers, I just realized that I’ve been shirking my fashion reportage.

So I decided to take a break between illegal immigration and Obamacare to catch you up on Lady M’s latest fashion iconary (is that a word?)

I’d first like to point out that Lady M hasn’t worn a new frock in days! Take yesterday for example:

mo chicagomo gov quinn sign election yr pandering law

We first saw this domino dress way back in 2010 at an NAACP event in Florida where Lady M  delivered an outstanding keynote speech on kid’s fat behinds. Strangely, she looked a little woozy that time too:

FireShot-

I blame the frock; it looks a little too much like one of those modern art paintings that make your eyes cross.

vasarely noir mauve

Whew! Just looking at that Victor Vasarely makes my stomach queasy. So I think that totally explains this look on Lady M’s face yesterday:

mo smashed

And earlier this month Lady M was forced to recycle this little number:

mo's recycled spa robemo in white

h/t Vanderleun

Which, you may recall, I embarrassingly mistook for a spa-robe when she first wore it last summer. How was I to know it was not just any spa robe, it was a Narciso Rodriguez spa robe that cost $1295! So you see why my face was red.

ar01dlunch lady

Well, okay, we didn’t go strictly recycle. We did snag a couple of new frocks to wear to Chicago for the big wedding . You didn’t expect hand-me-downs for the wedding of fille Valjar did you? No, I didn’t think so.

     FLOTUS-Deplanemo valjar wedding

Note the black and white theme we’ve been building on lately: clever, no?

Oh, and I guess we did have a couple of other new things to showcase:

mo book signingmo in aqua embroiderymomo at pie cafemo belts and sherri shepherd at the viewmo laura ashleymo bo shimon Peres medal of freedomnewseum new food ad standards mo

And that was just June – so far!

Butt to be fair, we did wear recycled too, as is appropriate in a reelection year. For example, we chose the unveiling of the Bush portraits to demonstrate how tight the budget has gotten around here due to the bad economy (and I think we all know whose fault that is).

laura mo jason wu mo inaugural

We wore our lovely Prabal Gurung that debuted in February 2011 when MO, along with the frock’s creator, Jason Wu, donated our beautiful, historic inaugural gown to the Smithsonian.

It’s not that Lady M wants to serve as the national fashion icon that she is; it’s just another sacrifice she has to make. You see, we are really leaning on the fabulosity (and fortunes) of the fashion industry now days. Because we can no longer rely exclusively on Wall Street’s Vulture Capitalists which - while still cooperative - have been doing a little belt tightening while waiting for Big Guy’s robust economy to get off life support. For now anyway, we’re pretty much stuck with the celebrity glitterati in Hollywood, of course, and our new-found fashion house ATM to bankroll us.

And BTW, just disregard what you read from Little Miss know-it-all Elizabeth Cline - first class b-i-t-#-# and newest addition to our enemies list – about Lady M’s fashion choices; they are anything butt cheap! (h/t Conservative Mom) and remember: for Lady M this is just a job. And just like every other political whore working girl, she has to keep her clients happy if she wants to continue to rely on those monthly ATM withdrawals.

So, come on people, let’s pull together! Kick off your shoes and enjoy Big Guy’s rousing rendition of his cover of the Animals classic, “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, “Please Don’t Let Me Be Miss-overspent.”

Butt remember, new rules: no grunting shrieking or shouting. What next, no fainting?

Now we know why
