Having A Wonderful Time. Wish Somebody Was Here.

Leaders from the Group of Seven – Britain’s Mr Johnson, Canada’s Justin Trudeau, Japan’s Yoshihide Suga, France’s Emmanuel Macron, Germany’s Angela Merkel and Italy’s Mario Draghi plus plus two representatives of the EU, Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel – met in Cornwall yesterday. Hilarity ensued:

Oh the choreography! The posturing. The posing. The dancing! What theater! Let the World Follies begin!

Boris, who was hosting this season’s follies, kicked it off with a nice little speech:

Boris Johnson has told G7 leaders he wants to create a “more feminine” world as the international community builds back from the Covid crisis…And he told his fellow leaders they should be aiming at “building back greener, building back fairer and building equally and – how should I put it? – in a more gender-neutral and perhaps a more feminine way.” – Independent

TRUDEAU-12-scaled-e1623356681369Nailed it!

Amidst all the bluff and bluster, rambling sound bites and sloganeering a musical review broke out. It was about a dying world being taken over by a group of deceitful and mendacious men – and (halleluiah!) women.

Casting took place:

Dance numbers were selected, and partners assigned.

2793AFP_9BV9WD_1623436418756_1623436446093This year’s rendition of the Paso Dobles will prohibit body contact beyond elbow bumping.

Musical selections were made,

5132The music director takes the troupe through their paces

and solo numbers were assigned:

Angela Merkle: Nothing’s Gonna Change My World – Beatles

Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Joey Biden: Learning To Fly – Pink Floyd

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything

No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

The ending chorus number was finally agreed upon by consensus: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by the Eurythmics.,

Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here

and individual lines were selected and assigned as solos:

Justine: Some of them want to use you

Joey: Some of them want to get used by you

Angela: Some of them want to abuse you

Emanuel: Some of them want to be abused

Italy, Japan and the EU figureheads were not given solos due to lack of seniority and/or GNP, so they just sang backup and joined in the chorus wrap up.

All:

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

So while world leaders are busy singing and dancing their way to leadership, the usual parade of protestors that accompany all such gatherings these days are busy…protesting. Or whatever.

Members of Extinction Rebellion dressed as birds protest in St. IvesMembers of the Extinction Rebellion protest whatever in nearby St. Ives

So as you can see, a good time is being had by all. “Wish you were here.”

3500

I wish somebody was here.

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a wind swept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything

No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

New CNN Motto: Make Better Mistakes

Number 1 item in the Friday Bizzarro news roundup:

I don’t know who wrote this but it definitely wins this week’s headline contest: Jeffrey Toobin holds his own in on-air return to CNN.

"I hope to be a better person off camera as well as on camera," Toobin told anchor Alisyn Camerota in one of the more bizarre segments CNN has broadcast in recent memory.

toobinYeah, good luck with that you sad sack.

Which leads one to wonder: is there anything a liberal weenie can get permanently fired for? Honestly, even Toobin’s “explanatory” mea coupa interview, conducted so professionally by Alisyn, would have been considered salacious just a few short years ago. I suppose that’s Trump’s fault too: he drove the left so cray-cray that they all suffered a moral meltdown and descended into debauchery.

But here’s the kicker:

Toobin thought he had turned off the camera, which he called “deeply moronic and indefensible. But that is part of the story. I have spent the seven subsequent months, miserable months in my life, I can certainly confess, trying to be a better person.”

So before returning full time to news analysis for CNN Jeffrey was sent out to do his mea culpas for… forgetting to turn the camera off? I guess that could be Hunter’s offense/defense as well.

Alisyn wrapped up the most cringeworthy interview of the year (so far) with this astute comment:

"Many of us have really missed having your legal analysis to guide us on our programs, so let me be the first to welcome you back."

I suspect that is true, given that the “programs” on CNN are hosted by a pack of mindless robotic jerkoffs.

cnn better mistakes tomorrow

And a Raj update, from last night:

All's good here in MOTUSville. Raj was released yesterday around 1-ish and was home napping by 2. It's still early but pain seems to be much easier to manage than with his first knee replacement. Apparently a good deal of knee #1 pain was due to existing leg nerve damage/pain from prior back injury/surgery that the subsequent surgery exacerbated. It’s gotten better but still hasn't resolved completely, hence my anxiety going into surgery #2.

But so far just normal surgical pain with this one. Meanwhile his Internal Medicine Doc has weaned him off 3 other meds that he's been taking for years and that seems to have addressed his ongoing gastrointestinal/heart arrhythmia issues. So Raj is heading into physical therapy in much better condition than he was for round one last November and we're both guardedly optimistic. He believes he’ll live to ski again.

I'm certain that all the prayers offered up by the Mighty MOTI have helped him along the road to recovery and we are both very, very thankful to all. The world may be falling apart but in our little corner of it anyway things are finally turning around. Hoping that it spreads.

Cicadas: Don Your Gay Apparel And Let’s Get It On

tumblr_6a611d95c7eb537a1a63762c1c7752b8_0cbc77db_1280

WASHINGTON (AP) — The cicadas were flying. The reporters hoping to join the president in Europe were not.

Reporters traveling to the United Kingdom for President Joe Biden’s first overseas trip were delayed seven hours after their chartered plane was overrun by cicadas.

The press plane is arranged with the assistance of the White House and carries journalists at their expense. There was not expected to be any impact on news coverage of Biden’s visit.

Of course “there was not expected to be any impact on news coverage of Biden’s visit,” they could write their fawning stories from home, before they left. And probably have.

Meanwhile inquiring minds want to know how many of the other ten Biblical plagues will be visited upon the country before our people are set free.

locusts

Good news for LGBT and non-gender conforming cicadas though: since their last appearance in 2004 they have been not only accepted but warmly embraced by the culture.

gay cicadaWear your gayness, bi-trans-pan sexuality with pride weedhopper! This is your time.

Of course the cicadas should also be advised that there’s also a few nasty diseases going around that demand social distancing that could inhibit their 17 year orgy: The Chinese Murder Virus for one, which I guess we’ll find out soon enough whether it effects cicadas  but(t) of more immediate concern to the critters is something called Massospora, which causes their butts to fall off. That one sounds like a real problem to me. Maybe we can get some Chinese labs to work on Massospora gain of function research and make its wings to fall off as well. That way the Press plane need never be inconvenienced again.

Oh, and I guess I should let the emerging 17-year cicadas know this: the bad guys are now exclusively white so you might want to keep that in mind as you don your gayest party garb to get it on with your fellow

chocolate-covered-grasshoppers-900x900Important color update: bad guys now wear white hats – and chocolate

Heading out now to see Raj and hopefully get him home this afternoon. Thanks again to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and concerns – all greatly appreciated and helpful for getting through a long, long day.

Your Words Say More About You Than Me

Honestly Mara, this says much more about you than it does me: NYT, MSNBC’s Mara Gay: ‘Disturbing’ to see ‘dozens of American flags’ on trucks on Long Island

Ok, so she’s on the editorial board of the New York Times, and this is America after all - she’s allowed her ignorant, incorrect opinions just like the next guy (unless you support President Trump).

It turns out Mara is offended by Trump supporters, who she believes are all knuckle-dragging, flag waving white supremacists.

“I was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with explicatives [sic] against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing … Essentially the message was clear: This is my country. This is not your country. I own this,” Gay said.

She claimed Americans would continue to see things like that until the country was ready to have the conversation about “whiteness,” adding her concern that “a large percentage of Americans” don’t understand the threat that it is.

First of all Mara, are you trying to tell me that there were no anti-Trump bumper stickers with “explicatives” on them from 2016-20? Or were they okay because…Trump!?  Secondly, what part of the American flag do you find disturbing? Why is this just fine:

APTOPIX Minneapolis Police DeathMinneapolis, 2020

…but this is not?

mara-gay-flags-01Long Island, 2021

The NYT defended their editorial board member, claiming her words were “taken out of context” which has become the default argument when you have nothing.

nyt maya gay

Feel free to view the full “context” of her MSNBC clip to confirm there is no other argument to be made. That she was talking about this in context of the January 6 “insurrection” changes absolutely nothing, her words are her words:

“The reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population — I don’t know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others,” Gay said in response to MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski calling for an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“I think that as long as they see Americanness as the same as one with whiteness, this is going to continue,” Gay said, turning to race and adding that “Americanness” and “whiteness” needed to be separated.

Let alone a seat on the New York Times editorial board

Note: Raj’s knee replacement surgery is scheduled for 2:40 pm, a most obnoxious time for a diabetic but my appeals were ignored. If you are one of the prayer warriors around here, said prayers would, as always, be gratefully appreciated.

Haters Gonna Hate

Channeling Trump…there are definitely worse looks: Ron DeSantis Cheered Like a Rockstar at Massive Concert With Pointed Shot at Fauci.

Masks were optional at the event that, in addition to DeSantis, featured headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan.

When DeSantis was announced, he was greeted with raucous cheers, from what looked like a largely young audience. That should especially worry the Democrats.

Judging by the reply tweets from libs I think it’s fair to say that fear and self-loathing are still alive and well in the Florida heat:

fl gov covid3

“Ignoring Covid-19?” Never in the history of pathogens has a virus been less ignored. I think what Mrs. Pink means is when are you going to stop ignoring those of us who like being locked down for our own good?

Screen Capture #1025

This is my personal favorite as it demonstrates the best of a liberal education, from grammar to logic:

fl gov covid

The stray reply pointing out the left’s hypocrisy -

gov fl covid4

was countered by a barrage of tweets pointing out…but, but, but: they were all wearing masks!

Were it not for the likes of a few Governor DeSantis I would weep for the future of this country.

deSantis

Keep the faith, baby; we are going to Make America Great Again™ - even if the left seems committed to the opposite, by hook

or by crook

The Racial Animus Train Has Left The Station

We should not be surprised that such racism is proudly displayed these days, after all progressives have been promoting the “turn-about is fair play” racial narrative for decades. Obama himself seeded the new crop of racism when he declared early in his presidency that the “Cambridge police acted stupidly” in arresting Professor Henry Gates breaking into his own house.

Henry-Louis-Skip-Gates-arrested-071609-by-Bill-Carter-Demotix-Images

The incident had all the markings at the time of being an orchestrated event but I had not yet allowed myself to believe that the highest office in the land would participate in such tom-foolery. As the Obama years marched on however it became quite clear what had been set in motion: Trayvon, St. Michael, Freddie Grey: one racial incident leading to ever bigger and better racial incidents. The “never let a crisis go to waste” mentality had changed gears to “create a crisis whenever possible and exploit the hell out of it.”

baltimore freddie gray 2015 riots

By the time Donald J. Trump was elected black racism was being lionized. Milwaukee, Kenosha, Seattle, Portland…you couldn’t burn cities down fast enough! Because Orange Man bad! And racist! We’ll show you.

So it comes to this: unhinged (although crazily credentialed) out of control racists feel completely vindicated in their racial animus: Lecturer At Official Yale Event Fantasizes About Brutally Murdering White People, Claims All White People Are Rotten

In an official lecture called “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind,” given by Aruna Khilanani at the Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Child Study Center, Khilanani graphically described her fantasy about killing and burying white people, saying, “I had fantasies of unloading a revolver into the heads of any white person that got in my way, burying their body, and wiping my bloody hands as I walked away relatively guiltless with a bounce in my step. Like I did the world a f***ing favor.”

The audio, which can be found here, includes a number of racially charged remarks directed at white people, including, “White people are out of their minds and they have been for a long time,” as well as, “We keep forgetting that directly talking about race is a waste of our breath. We are asking a demented, violent predator who thinks that they are a saint or a superhero, to accept responsibility. It ain’t gonna happen. They have five holes in their brain. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall.”

“There are no good apples,” Khilanani remarked. “White people make my blood boil.”

Wow. That sort of uncontrolled rage used to earn you a mandated anger management class; now it most likely will earn you a tenured professorship.

All of which more or less proves that we don’t really deserve Mutt-day, but what do you say we climb aboard the Mutt Train and take a ride anyway?

Train man stray dogs 13

Corky and Eugene Bostick’s dog train, designed and built to take abandoned dogs for a ride around the brother’s property in Fort Worth Texas, became a YouTube sensation in 2015. Corky passed away at age 91 last year but his brother is still trying to keep those doggies movin.’

Kind-hearted retiree in Fort Worth, Texas takes homeless dogs for "walks" in his custom-built puppy train. Animal news blog The Dodo reports that Bostick started taking in stray dogs at his farm in Fort Worth after retiring about 15 years ago.

"We live down on a dead-end street, where me and my brother have a horse barn," he told The Dodo. "People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live."

While Bostick said the dogs had plenty of room to run and play around his farm, it wasn't long before he reckoned that they might like to go into town for “walks.”

Later on, in town:

No “good apples” eh, Khilanani? Maybe you should get yourself a dog, that way at least somebody would love you. On second thought, I really don’t think Khilanani deserves a dog.

I Must Go Now, My Covfefe Needs Me

“I am a simple man who would just like to eat laminated pastry and sip a cappuccino outside in the sun.”

coffee croissant2

You must admit, last week was fairly crappy and to cap it off my coffee maker bit the dust yesterday somewhere around my 3rd cup.  Now this was not a coffee maker that you can just run over to Kohl's or BB&B and replace, or even order on Amazon for 2nd day delivery – unless you wish to pay full price, which you do not as it is prohibitive. No, in order to replace my Saeco ground-to-order-cup-at-a-time brewer that makes perfect regular, expresso and cappuccino for less than a third of it’s ridiculous price you have to find a reconditioned one online. Which may take awhile.

saeco coffee machineI doubt they even make this model any longer but she’s a beauty

Fortunately Raj lives in mortal fear of having his favorite things no longer available so he ordered a spare one several years ago when he spotted a reconditioned one from the Seattle Coffee Company. So it’s been stashed away awaiting our hour of need which arrived yesterday morning. We were able to confirm the old one to be completely kaput and get the new one up and running again in a bit less than an hour and a half (it takes awhile for your new coffee maker to get to know you properly).

And now Sunday morning can now proceed peacefully. If we hurry we can enjoy coffee on the deck as it’s currently sunny and just 72 degrees. I don’t have any “laminated” pastry but I do have bagels fresh from the Detroit Bagel Company and cream cheese which will do just fine.

bagels cream cheese

By noon it will be in the 90s so this may well be my last chance to be outdoors for the day, so I bid you adieu and wish you and your morning coffee a good day – whether enjoyed in the sun or under coffee-colored skies.

I must go now as my covfefe needs me.
