CLOSE THE DAMN BORDER!

Have you ever had food poisoning and not know how you got it? Boy, I sure have, three times within the past few years. Each time I suspected a salad that I had “enjoyed” either at home or in a restaurant. Fortunately Raj, who isn’t big on salads, (his motto: “always order the soup”) was spared. I have decided to follow his recommendation. I now resolutely refuse to order salads in restaurants and I’m very selective about produce I buy. I save most of my salad cravings for summer when I can get greens at the farmers market.

I have no proof of course that fresh produce was the source of the foodborne pathogens that I seem to be especially susceptible to…

but I think I’ve sleuthed out at least one potential cause.

“A search of the trailer filled with produce from Mexico led agents to discover 33 foreign nationals from Mexico and El Salvador hiding inside.”

“The group concealed inside the trailer included 12 juveniles in age from 3 to 17, a pregnant female and a convicted felon.” – NYPost

Dare I say that they don’t have porta potties on those produce trucks? And just to make an unsanitary environment even more so, the driver of the rig had turned the refrigeration unit off so the temperature inside was close to 100 degrees when he was stopped.

I don’t know about you but I will continue to restrict my produce from Mexico to avocados, which I only buy when I can’t find any from California which seems to be most of the time now. Even then I wash them in a Clorox solution before slicing into the skin.

But for now, I think I’ll run to our local farmers market and stock up for the weekend.

Then, since it’s going to be in the 90s today with the kind of humidity that makes you sweat just thinking about it, and I have 2 small tins of imported Italian oil-packed tuna in the pantry, I think I’ll make a classic Salade Niçoise and call it a day.

Oh, and in case I forgot to mention it: CLOSE THE DAMN BORDER!

Because Facts Don’t Matter

Lest there be any doubt in your mind as to how much our media knows (or cares to know) about our military allow me to submit exhibit A from last night’s “Salute To America” celebration on the Mall. It’s from Politico:

Fighter jets at the Washington Monument

In an article titled Trump's 'Salute to America' in pictures the photo was captioned “U.S. Army planes fly over the National Mall.”

Um, “Army planes,” seriously? That is one seriously stupid and/or lazy staffer Politico has working for them. Even if you have no idea who does what in the U.S. military services anybody who was watching the speech would know that the Army actually sent two Apache attack helicopters for their flyover.

The Army mostly doesn’t “fly planes” much these days. That magnificent shot above is actually the Navy Blue Angels approaching for their first flyover. They did an encore performance as well:

I’d almost give Politico a break if they had called them “Air Force planes” as that would at least make sense, although that would have been the magnificent Thunderbirds. But “Army planes” – come on people, totally unacceptable. Where’s the editor? Oh yeah, on holiday.

And for the record, here’s what the Air Force actually sent: the Stealth bomber and two F-22 Raptors:

Trump then introduced the Air Force, followed by a B-2 Stealth Bomber along with two F-22 Raptors flying overhead.

Pretty cool, no?

But as usual, the President and his First Lady (and it is FLOTUS Friday) were the real stars of yesterday’s show.

And they didn’t let a little precipitation rain on their parade. If the media wishes to continue their annoying, petty and petulant articles about what was a glorious Independence Day celebration let them. Their shovel, their grave.

**I just checked, the Politico article remains mislabeled today. Because facts have little to do with journalism these days.

Happy Birthday America!

Happy Birthday America! Let’s celebrate.

Image result for happy 4th of july gif

So if the Dems want to skip the annual Independence Day parade – ostensibly due to the cost – let them. They’re only spoiling it for themselves. I suspect they would have complained about the cost of our actual independence as well as they certainly don’t seem to approve of any of the nation’s founding principles.  Is there anything about America the Dems don’t want to destroy?

So while they hope, as they don’t pray, for rain on our parades I say let’s force them to boycott everything American: burgers,

hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans

In fact, let’s make as much delicious triggering food as you can think of. Let’s buy American flag toothpicks by the gross and mark our territory.

Ribs, steaks, fries, brownies, strawberry shortcake…if it’s delicious, flag it. Soon there will be nothing left for the dedicated America-haters to eat except precious overpriced chi-chi food.

So get out there and hit your local 4th of July parade, grill up some burgers and make some potato salad. For this is truly the day (trigger warning!) the Lord made.

Democrats Dilemma: Fix the Problem or Haz a Sad

It’s come to this:

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria has emerged as one of the first liberal journalists to admit that the U.S. system of asylum is “out of control” and is being “gamed.”  He discussed the growing crisis on his program, “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” and in a recent column in the Washington Post saying it “pains me to say that he [Trump] is right.”

He acknowledges that the number of asylum seekers has skyrocketed in the last five years [3 of which were during the Reign of Obama] which has led to a “staggering backlog in immigration courts.”

Zakaria calls the current asylum rules “vague” and says “they are too lax.”

Even Fareed Zakaria can figure out what Congress apparently cannot.

Still, House Speaker Pelosi who has called the border situation “child abuse” and “an atrocity that violates every value we have.” She then cynically proceeded to pass a $4.5 million package of emergency humanitarian relief saying “our legislation is a vote against the cruel attitude toward children of this administration.” She then proceeded to explain that the bill was a funding bill and not an immigration reform measure. Dan Crenshaw’s tweet in response to 2016 Presidential loser Hillary Clinton could just as easily be directed at Pelosi.

But back to Zach:

Perhaps Zakaria’s most honest admission was that “asylum is meant to be granted to a small number of people in extreme circumstances — not as a substitute for the process of immigration itself. Yet the two have gotten mixed up.”

You know, that concept is so clearly the case, so easy to understand you’d think the smartest people in this country – journalists and elite Democrat politicians – would have figured it out years ago. And fixed it, like Zakaria suggests:

The criteria for asylum need to be rewritten and substantially tightened. The number of courts and officials dealing with asylum must be massively expanded. (According to former immigration official David Martin, today’s crisis has its roots in the budgetary cuts of the mid-Obama years, which starved the government of resources to process asylum applicants quickly.) People should not be able to use asylum claims as a way to work in the United States. There needs to be much greater cooperation with the home countries of these applicants rather than insults, threats and aid freezes. No one fix will do it, but we need the kind of sensible bipartisan legislation that has resolved past immigration crises.

You know, like President Trump has been trying to do since the day he came down that escalator in 2015.

But that’s okay Dems, if you really, really don’t want to make America Great Again you can continue to stage your theatrical hissy fits at empty yards.

Because that’s real productive too.

Fireflies For the Fourth

I don’t have time to report on AOC’s latest border histrionics so I leave that responsibility in your capable hands. I would just like to suggest she get her incredibly smart ass self back to Washington where Congress could be working on fixing our “refuge” status designation and funding border security in order to stem the flood of immigrants on the southern border. I don’t think that responsibility falls within the purview of  border patrol agents.

I’m just going to remind you that you only have 2 days to stock up on sparklers for your 4th of July celebration.

You’ll want an adequate supply in case the natural sparklers don’t show up until later this year due to all the rain…or habitat encroachment, light pollution, global warming…or whatever.

And if all else fails, you can make your own fireflies.

Either way, chill and enjoy the firefly flick.

The Danger Is Strong In That One

I’ve decided that Joey Biden really is a non-player character in the Democratic Presidential Sweepstakes. Like Hillary he’s so far past his use-by date he’s probably toxic. And he’s always had a problem with thinking and talking at the same time.

I’m not worried that much about Bernie either.

While his pitch is certainly appealing to know-nothing youths and professional layabouts,

I honestly don’t think the country would vote for an avowed Socialist…not this time anyway.

But an ambitious female Obamabot willing to say and do whatever is necessary to win honestly scares me.

Caitlin Johnstone explains why quite succinctly:

Harris is everything the US empire’s unelected power establishment wants in a politician: charismatic, commanding, and completely unprincipled.

Ideologues like Bernie, and even Obama, are dangerous but at least they are predictable. Hollow, unscrupulous pols like Kamala fueled only by blind ambition are even more dangerous

Mark my words: she is the one we need fear most.

P.S. Caitlin Johnstone is essentially an Australian socialist who doesn’t much like our President, but that doesn’t mean she’s wrong about Kamala.

History Will Determine What’s “Historic”

Remember how during the Obama Occupation everything that happened - according to the media - was “historic”?

FOR BREAKOUT

Some things are more historic than others.

I’ll concede that the Obama administration invented hashtag diplomacy via the nascent Twitter platform,

U.S. Secretary of State Spokeswoman Jen Psaki, tweeting for world peace

President Donald J. Trump has taken it to the expert level.

I’m willing to let history determine what’s historic.
