Because Facts Don’t Matter

Lest there be any doubt in your mind as to how much our media knows (or cares to know) about our military allow me to submit exhibit A from last night’s “Salute To America” celebration on the Mall. It’s from Politico:

Fighter jets at the Washington Monument

In an article titled Trump's 'Salute to America' in pictures the photo was captioned “U.S. Army planes fly over the National Mall.”

Um, “Army planes,” seriously? That is one seriously stupid and/or lazy staffer Politico has working for them. Even if you have no idea who does what in the U.S. military services anybody who was watching the speech would know that the Army actually sent two Apache attack helicopters for their flyover.

The Army mostly doesn’t “fly planes” much these days. That magnificent shot above is actually the Navy Blue Angels approaching for their first flyover. They did an encore performance as well:

I’d almost give Politico a break if they had called them “Air Force planes” as that would at least make sense, although that would have been the magnificent Thunderbirds. But “Army planes” – come on people, totally unacceptable. Where’s the editor? Oh yeah, on holiday.

And for the record, here’s what the Air Force actually sent: the Stealth bomber and two F-22 Raptors:

Trump then introduced the Air Force, followed by a B-2 Stealth Bomber along with two F-22 Raptors flying overhead.

Pretty cool, no?

But as usual, the President and his First Lady (and it is FLOTUS Friday) were the real stars of yesterday’s show.

And they didn’t let a little precipitation rain on their parade. If the media wishes to continue their annoying, petty and petulant articles about what was a glorious Independence Day celebration let them. Their shovel, their grave.

**I just checked, the Politico article remains mislabeled today. Because facts have little to do with journalism these days.
