Shrinking #Diplomacy and Inflating #Egos

I’m afraid I can’t ease your jitters over the  Russia/Ukraine situation. Once you’ve turned your diplomatic channels over to social media, the situation is more or less out of your control. Reducing diplomacy to 160 characters may not be as effective as you’d hoped.

There’s fighting words, if I’ve ever heard any.

Butt here’s something I can report on that’s sure to put your weekend mind at ease: apparently there is “no truth” to the vicious rumor that NBC hired a shrink to find out why David Gregory is so unlikable and the ratings of “Meet the Press” have plummeted to the bottom of the trash heap of history. As Mr. Gregory told a local radio show yesterday:

"It's a complete fiction, there was never any psychological consultant hired. That's utter fiction, that's gossip reporting gone wild,"

That’s a relief. I can’t imagine why anyone would waste good money trying to figure out why America has grown disenchanted with another arrogant, smug, egotistical, know-it-all who acts as if he’s above the law,

Bowing to Non-American Customs and the Occasional Robot...

It’s Friday, do you know where your President is?

bo's eastern tour

He was last spotted in Japan where, I see, Drudge mocked him for bowing to a robot - butt you have to admit, the little guy was really good. The robot I mean:

No Childs’ Fat Behind, and No Salad Overdressed

Okay troops, MOTUS is hitting the road today for her quad-annual cross country road trip, and the mountains do not do intertubes well, regardless of which service you buy, so the best I can do is to refer you to a most insightful article on Lady M. If somebody has already linked to it, I apologize butt have not had time to even check yesterday’s comments.

It’s by Thomas Lifsom, editor of the wonderful American Thinker and he has taken Lady M to task; dissecting her comments to a group of “kid reporters” after the fantabulous Spring Sphere Roll. As you can see, she treated them very professionally: sitting around on the floor hippie drum circle style. Good practice for when they become official members of the Main Stream Media. I will just point out that this is not how we entertain the staff from Vogue, Better Homes and Gardens and Ladies Home Journal.

FLOTUS-Zack-Easter-Egg-Roll_thumb[2]Okay then, is everybody comfy? This is how Buh-Rock and I like to relax every night.

She responded to the kids questions by giving them important facts on the yin and yang of eating:

The only way to end racial discrimination is…through racial discrimination?

“Justice Sotomayor seemed to mock one of Chief Justice Roberts’s most memorable lines. In a 2007 decision that limited the use of race to achieve integration in public school systems, he wrote, ‘The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.’”

On the contrary, the Wise Latina believes that the only way to end discrimination on the basis of race is…to discriminate on the basis of race.

Let’s examine the basis for her contention, beginning with Big Guy’s basis for social justice: empathy:

But it’s those five percent of the cases that really count. And in those five percent of the cases, what you’ve got to look at is—what is in the justice’s heart. What’s their broader vision of what America should be.

And we need somebody who’s got the heart—the empathy—to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old—and that’s the criteria by which I’ll be selecting my judges – Barack Obama

mo empathyEmpathy: hard to define, butt you’ll know it when you see it.

Spring Spheres 2014: That’s How We Roll!!!

Was the Spring Sphere Eggstravaganda a success?

Screenshot Studio capture #1906

Absolutely. There was no video of Big Guy missing a baker’s dozen shots in a row like last year.

been practicingIf I miss this one, confiscate all the iPhones

We’ve been practicing shooting our hoops ever since last year’s embarrassing showing. Too bad we didn’t put as much time into practicing our foreign relations.

And the old tennis game looked pretty good too:

Obama as a Literary Conceit

"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness ,or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Odd, isn’t it? I mean, just last Saturday,  JDOlson posted the above quote from The Great Gatsby in the comments on “Who, Really, Won the Cold War?” and next thing you know, Big Guy shows up for Easter Services wearing his Gatsby suit (the 2013 Dicaprio version). He must be reading my little blog again.

“The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God—a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that—and he must be about His Father’s Business, the service of a vast, vulgar and meretricious beauty.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

For her part, Lady M played along, dressing up as Daisy Buchanan (the 1974 Redford version):

Easter Sunday 2014

A Happy and Blessed Easter to all of MOTUS’ Christian friends, and everyone who takes this day to reflect on the life of Christ.
