Take the Backroad Home

Recent news from Michigan:

1. “High court strikes down Whitmer's emergency powers; Gov vows to use other means”

In a landmark ruling with far-reaching implications, the Michigan Supreme Court decided Friday that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer violated her constitutional authority by continuing to issue orders to combat COVID-19 without the approval of state lawmakers.

The state's high court ruled 4-3 that a state law allowing the governor to declare emergencies and keep them in place without legislative input — the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act — is unconstitutional.

The court was unanimous in ruling that a separate law — the 1976 Emergency Management Act  — did not give Whitmer the power, after April 30, to issue or renew any executive orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic after 28 days without Legislative approval…

Not to worry Michigan, our “omnipotent moral busybody” intends to find “alternate” methods to impose her morally superior mandates on her subjects.

The governor said that even after the Supreme Court ruling takes effect, her directives will remain in place through "alternative sources of authority."

Because she knows best what’s good for you.

And frankly, I question the “goodness” of the intentions

2. For anyone looking for a reason to take a Midwest color tour, how about this?

Only One Color In the Box

The news that President Trump and Melania both tested positive for COVID-19 will allow the loathsome Left to demonstrate their true colors.

They only have one color in their box of Crayolas.

I anticipate that, as usual, they will not disappoint.

Don’t worry troops, our President will find a way to beat this and turn it to his advantage. And let’s face it, better to happen now than the week before the election.

Garbage In Garbage Out

What is wrong with New York City? Their streets are lined with garbage from Wall Street to Midtown Manhattan.

Lower Manhattan: Bags of garbage and recycling are heaped up on Lafayette Street near the New York Stock Exchange FridayLafayette Street near the New York Stock Exchange

Chelsea, Manhattan: Garbage, some of it collected by the homeless, is seen on West 15th Street and 7th Avenue on July 31

Garbage everywhere even though businesses remain closed and half the people normally working there haven’t stepped foot in the city for months.  It’s sort of a trick question, the answer is obvious.

If these clowns don’t do something about their city pretty soon they’ll have a bigger health problem to worry about than COVID.

Dead rats, flies – what could go wrong?

But don’t worry, Mayor de Blasio has imposed a $1000 fine for not wearing a facemask. I suppose they’ll work on bubonic plague just as well.

In unrelated news, I see that the Presidential Debate Commission is thinking of imposing “new tools to maintain order” at future debates.

Let Your People Go

I saw a commercial late last night for those COVID head shields;

I give them credit, making a hunk of plastic glued to a foam ring that goes around your head into a legitimate consumer product that people are willing to exchange a goodly amount of money for is no mean feat; especially since its efficaciousness against the viruses it portents to protect you from is at best questionable. But that’s neither here nor there, the face shields meet our (D) Governor’s mandate that we remain masked at all times while in public or suffer the (State imposed) consequences.

I am struck by the thought that future generations will laugh while watching archived videos of these late night commercials and wonder how their parents and grandparents could have been so traumatized by a virus that turned out to be far more political than biological. From their vantage point they’ll likely spot the irony of the face masked society immediately:

Black Privilege…Can We Talk?

If White Privilege is a thing and “Black Disadvantage” a fact why do all these white women keep pretending that they’re black?

Jessica Krug won't teach at George Washington University this semester

That’s easy; because over time being black, or indeed any “person of color” in America, has evolved from being a distinct disadvantage to being an advantage in many lines of endeavor – especially academia (and politics: I’m talking to you Elizabeth). Current case in point: Jessica Krug, George Washington University African history professor who teaches introductory-level history and advanced courses on African studies. I would like to see a syllabus for Jessica’s “introductory-level history” class; I’m certain that “critical race theory” and anti-Western materials are front and center.

Jessica Krug’s colleagues said they “are shocked and appalled” by her lying about her identity.

“She has betrayed the trust of countless current and former students, fellow scholars of Africana Studies, colleagues in our department and throughout the historical discipline…

“The discipline of history is concerned with truth telling about the past,” the statement said.NYPost

I would suggest that if “the discipline of history” had been concerned with “truth telling about the past” rather than casting it as anti-white, anti-Christian propaganda we might not be enduring the nightly “antics” of progressive morons burning and looting cities because “Black Lives Matter” and “Defund the Police!”.

Officials blame differing groups of 'outsiders' for violence at protests | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

For her part, Jessica – a white Jewish woman raised in suburban Kansas City – has confessed her crime and suggested she be cancelled:

“I have not only claimed these identities as my own when I had absolutely no right to do so — when doing so is the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures…

I have built my life on a violent anti-Black lie, and I have lied in every breath I have taken. I should absolutely be cancelled.”

The Left’s solution to controversy: just cancel it.

Unfortunately these clowns can’t differentiate between the “violence” of “cultural appropriation” like Halloween/taco/sushi night

Halloween Costume Correctness on Campus: Feel Free to Be You, but Not Me - The New York Times

and, well, real violence like rioting, looting and property damage, running people over and shooting.

PJMedia notes:

Ironically, cases like Rachel Dolezal and Jessica Krug suggest that white people can gain prestige, notoreity (sic), and job opportunities by pretending to be black. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) appears to have capitalized on a false Native American (specifically Cherokee) identity as well.

These situations suggest that white people have incentives to identify with some form of racial minority. To some degree, white Americans can get ahead by becoming “trans-racial.”

All of which suggests to me that we may well be past the need for reparations.

Uh huh, ain’t that always been the way?

She Who Must Be Destroyed. And the People Who Will Facilitate.

Let me see if I’ve got this right: the party that has spent the past 12 years haranguing everyone about race and “a woman’s right to choose”  is about to embark on the arduous task of disqualifying a woman nominated to the Supreme Court…for choosing life and adopting 2 black children from Haitian orphanages?

Family photo of Amy Coney Barrett, her husband Jesse Barrett, and their seven children Emma; Vivian; Tess; John Peter; Liam; Juliet; and Benjamin

Yes, it appears I have it exactly right.

President Donald Trump and Judge Amy Coney Barrett  arrive at the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, DC

It’s both odd and concerning how “free speech” and “tolerance” have devolved in America to the point where only certain viewpoints are deemed worthy of protection and then only if held by the “right” people.  Mixed race families are revered only if they are “small-ish” families and even then only if they are liberal households…or TV commercials. “Choice” is only a woman’s right if they choose correctly and “no” is the most generally acceptable choice. “Faith” is okay as long as you don’t express it any meaningful way and even then only if you’re liberal first and “Catholic” - like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi or Jewish like Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Chuck Schumer - second.

So expect another spectacle of intolerance as the Amy Coney Barrett hearings unfold. She, and most likely her husband, will be attacked for her views on abortion, her faith and apparently her family. Both its size:

As well as it’s makeup:

So much for keeping the children out of politics.

The Left – they simply never disappoint.
