“Heck of a job, Carney!” You too, Ricky S.

The President’s official Press-mouth and surrogate whiner, having grown as much as he could in this job, has left his post to pursue more lucrative opportunities.

dewitt

He’ll be replaced by a Press-mouth with an even more impossibly perfect Press-mouth name: “Josh Earnest.” Tell me this guy wasn’t born with a silver-tongued destiny in his mouth. Since Josh has been serving the WON since 2007, you can expect a smooth transition.

earnestobamaMr. Earnest, surrendered his personal integrity in 2007 and never looked back

Maybe he can at least see to it that Big Guy gets important news prior to reading about it in America’s Newspaper of Record.

josh bo jayJosh, Bo and JJ: as I’ve mentioned before, they all look like game show hosts to me. Different show, same game.

And speaking of changing the palace guard, it became painfully apparent sometime during this past week that heads would have to roll at the VA. The phony scandal situation finally reached critical mass - i.e. it came to light that you can now get a sex change operation funded by Medicare but you still can’t get a diagnostic colonoscopy at the VA - and needed to be addressed from the top.

In announcing that General Shinseki was unexpectedly falling on the sword, BHO stepped up to the plate to bunt:

“It is my Administration and I always take full responsibility,”

he told the Press Corpse, before deflecting blame back to George W. Bush.

We don’t have a permanent replacement for the General yet, butt his interim replacement is another natural: deputy secretary Sloan Gibson. Is that a great name or what? Sloan.

ferris-bueller-cast11Sloane: What are we going to do?
Ferris: The question isn't "what are we going to do," the question is "what aren't we going to do?"

No, wait...that’s the wrong Sloan.

And Sloan looks enough like Steven Carrel to be his doppelganger; with that name and those looks he would make a great boss. Or at least he could play one on TV.

sloan carrel sloan carrel 2Wow! Even I can’t tell them apart.

So that’s it for this week:  We’re going to miss Jay Jay, the only man in the country who made Robert Gibbs’ 2 year run as press secretary look, um, not that bad. And good luck to Josh, who, having already served as BO’s campaign press secretary is uniquely qualified for the job requirements of Presidential Press-mouth: he’s already an “intellectual sociopath.”

So, buh bye Jay-Jay:

awkward jay boMost awkward man-hug-kiss in the history of  presidential man-hug-kisses

I’m pretty sure the best is yet to come for you.

“If I only had a brain…”

Today’s reflection: Big Guy form tackles youth concussions. His message for America: youth concussions can cause brain injuries and he’s pretty sure he had some when he was young.

And that’s why, as reported in USA TODAY (that is vying with America’s Newspaper of Record for “typo of the week”) he wants Americans to stop “sucking it up:”

“Moreover, adults need to discourage a ‘suck-it-up’ culture that encourages young athletes to pay through pain, Obama said.”

Because we’re already pretty tough enough and don’t need to “pay” through any more pain.

Let’s Debate the Logic of White Privilege

Today we reflect on what passes for debate in the Age of Obama:

No, this is real. Complete explanation in, of all places, The Atlantic: Hacking Traditional College Debate's White-Privilege Problem.

Which begs the question: were this not the Age of Obama, could the soft racism of lowered expectations have so completely transformed the art of competitive collegiate debate?  (That’s a rhetorical question, if anyone’s keeping score.)

Clearly what is demonstrated in the video is not classic debate, where arguments are made and refuted. It’s more like classic performance art; a rant, if you will, of the take-no-prisoners (or breath) variety that made fake TeeVee “news” show debates famous. Highest scores go not to the most rational arguments, butt to the loudest voices and most repetitious recital of the day’s talking points.

Alas, in the Age of Obama, logic is simply another manifestation of white privilege. It must be surrendered at the door to make room for the superior powers of the performance.

The Science is Settled

Today’s reflection:

“Obama Unleashes His Inner Geek (Again) at White House Science Fair.”

"The last thing we can afford to do right now is play politics with our kids' health."

The science is settled then: if you want to eat, you’ll eat what we tell you to eat.

Being There; The Sequel

Day one of my semi-sabbatical. So far so good.

Today’s reflection:

CNN's John King reports that Democrats are privately calling President Obama "detached," "flat footed," and "incompetent."

Detached? Flat footed? Incompetent?

detached flat footed incompetent

Now who does that remind me of…?

Memorial Day 2014

Lest we forget that this day started not as a “holiday” but as a day of somber remembrance, today’s Memorial Day post is dedicated to our country’s fallen heroes; the 1.4 million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in wars waged across centuries in order to preserve the principles of freedom and liberty.

So let us pause a moment and bow our heads in their memory as we reflect what a different world we would live in, were it not for their sacrifice.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Let us also remember our part in the sacred trust between us and our warriors: they fight so that we might be free.

The phony VA scandal is Bush’s Fault, so can’t you just let BO play through?

One day ‘till Memorial Day - the day set aside for us to honor the memory of the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces - and Nancy Pelosi is still focused on blaming George W. Bush for the phony VA scandal.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., repeatedly put the blame for the Veterans Affairs scandal on former President George W. Bush,

while arguing that her party has worked hard for veterans in recent years.

Pelosi took a shot at Bush

while saying that the scandal is a high priority for Obama.

"He sees the ramifications of some seeds that were sown a long time ago,”

constitution-3a6e5d963ceee4f7cd7ef448cb32e5ee8e86f7e0-s6-c10Apparently a very long time ago.

At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.

“Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage,” Mr. Obama said.

The president also blamed “demographics” for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats “tend to congregate a little more densely” in cities such as New York and Chicago. He said it gives Republicans disproportional clout in Congress.

“So there are some structural reasons why, despite the fact that Republican ideas are largely rejected by the public, it’s still hard for us to break through,” Mr. Obama said.

obama majority ruleI sure hope the “folks” don’t ever believe in slavery again.

Nancy continues with her criticism of the VA scandal:

“when you have two wars over a long period of time and many, many more, millions more veterans," she told reporters during her Thursday press briefing. "And so, I know that he is upset about it."

empty suit left full suit right Unclear who Nancy thinks is upset: the empty suit on the left or the full suit jacket on the right.

"Maybe when we go into war, we should be thinking about its consequences and its ramifications," Pelosi said while discussing the scandal.

521139828_BenghaziGate_xlargeAs opposed to Libya, where we thought through the consequences and ramifications of our actions very carefully.

"You would think that would be a given, but maybe it wasn't. And so, we go in a war in Afghanistan, leave Afghanistan for Iraq with unfinished business in Afghanistan. Ten years later, we have all of these additional veterans. In the past five years, two million more veterans needing benefits from the VA. That's a huge, huge increase."

Yikes! If that’s our problem I guess Presidents Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy are going to have to share at least part of the blame for creating such a huge, huge increase in the number of veterans too:

  • World War II (1941-1945) (begun under President Roosevelt – D)
    U.S. service members: 16,112,566
    Deaths: 405,399 (291,557 in battle)
    Wounded: 670,846
    Estimated living veterans: 1,711,000
  • Korean War (1950-1953) (begun under President Truman – D)
    U.S. service members: 5,720,000
    Deaths: 54,246 (36,574 in theater)
    Wounded: 103,284
    Estimated living veterans: 2,275,000
  • Vietnam War (1964-1975) (begun under President Kennedy – D)
    U.S. service members: 8,744,000 (estimated 3,403,000 deployed)
    Deaths: 90,220 (58,220 in theater)
    Wounded: 153,303
    Estimated living veterans: 7,391,000

Don’t worry though, Nancy has a solution in mind:

She suggested that Obamacare might hold the key to solving the problem. "We have the Affordable Care Act that is out there that is providing resources for more federally-qualified health clinics around the country," Pelosi said. "Maybe we should take a look at how we deal with our veterans' needs in a way that says let's help them closer to home, whether that's a federally qualified health clinic or in some other institution that provides health care closer to home. [It's] especially important for our veterans who live in rural areas."

Nice idea, Nancy, butt maybe we should look at the way the VA treats our veterans and ask ourselves if that’s how we want everyone in America served someday: rationed services due to cost and resource limitations that result in secret wait lists and denial of services. And if that’s the way things turn out, will that be George Bush’s fault too? And will you and the rest of the ruling class give up your platinum plated healthcare in order to take advantage of Obamacare too?

Anyway, with Nancy’s help we’ve at least gotten to the bottom of why America’s prestige has slipped so far; why the U.S. is no longer treated like a super power, why foreign leaders who would have never dared ridicule a sitting U.S. President now feel free to have at it. And, surprisingly, we find out that it’s all George W. Bush’s fault.

If only he hadn’t been such a cowboy, so cocky and independent,  the world would still love and respect us.

Bush-Umbrella-1

As it is, even after five and a half years, BO is still cleaning up Bush’s messes. With his butt, apparently.

Okay, now that that’s cleaned up, you can all get back to your previously scheduled holiday weekend activities. Fore!
