Close the Gate, Lock the Door

Why the Dems think a porous border is a good idea in the first place is anybody’s guess.

But suffice to say they will be predictably outraged now that SCOTUS has cleared the way for President Trump to allocate military funds to provide border protection, i.e., BUILD THE WALL.

Fair warning, the caterwalling is about to begin.

Let’s Take a Summer Bacon Break

NOTE: FLOTUS Friday is on vacation and will return next week.

I suppose this is good news for some people: Beyond Meat, a company specializing in plant-based burgers, ground “meat” and “sausage,” just announced they are launching a new line of “bacon” as well. Which of course is not bacon-bacon but rather “plant based” “bacon.”

Plant-based bacon? What do we need that for - we already have plant-based based bacon.

Mmm! BACON!

Somebody’s Going To Pay For This, Bigly

Not since Admiral James Stockdale, Ross Perot’s VP candidate, appeared at the 1992 Vice Presidential debate has an honorable Vietnam veteran been so abused.

But when you have a Democratic machine willing to undermine the U.S. Constitution in order to get rid of a president they don’t like, nobody should be surprised to find out that Robert Mueller was hijacked for his “conservative” credentials to put his imprimatur on the Independent Counsel’s Report. Then he was put on mothballs while his partisan staff of Trump haters set about trying to remove the duly elected President from office.

Sadly Bob Mueller appears to be past his expiration date. It seems nearly everything in his own report was beyond his purview: Hillary Clinton, the DNC, GPS Fusion, Christopher Steele’s dossier, FISA leaks, Comey leaks, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, McCabe’s coup attempt, spies placed in Trump’s campaign, Russia! Russia! Russia!, Rosenstein’s conflict of interest, the Obama unmasking of American citizens – all beyond Mueller’s purview (h/t Mark Levin). Not beyond Mueller’s purview? Exoneration. Which by all accounts is well beyond the purview of prosecutors.

Image result for exoneration beyond purview of prosecutors

But the Mueller Investigation was tasked not with prosecuting old standards of justice, but with setting completely new standards of innocence for Trump because…Orange Man Bad!

Oh, and by the way, if the Democrats see no problem with conflict of interest when picking a team of lawyers to conduct a politically motivated investigation they should have no problem with the appointment of Andrew McCarthy, Joe DiGenova and Rudy Giuliani to the DOJ’s team to investigate the investigators.

Despite yesterday’s fairly universal conclusion that the Mueller testimony closed the book on impeachment I see that several Democrats are still calling for President Trump’s impeachment. I guess they had their teleprompters loaded up before the hearing actually took place.

Unfortunately for the Trump-hating Dems, disaster struck and left their home in a shambles. And apparently somebody forgot to renew their homeowners insurance policy. Somebody’s going to pay for this, bigly.

Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds…

Behold the madness of crowds - as if you could avoid it if you wanted to: Dateline Berkeley: – Natural gas outlawed for all new construction. I’m assuming these do-gooders think they’re saving the environment. By taking one of the cheapest and cleanest burning fuels off the market.

Note the “Off Fossil Fuels” power couple in the back

I guess they’re going to generate all that additional electricity load with wind and solar, as we know they won’t be allowed to use nuclear, coal or natural gas. Then, when they run out of electricity the overlords can demand a takeover of the electric companies – Like Mayor de Blasio did this week: NYC Mayor Suggests ConEd Takeover After Heat Forces Shutdown.

“We don’t depend on a private company for water or for policing or for fire protection,” de Blasio said at a press conference Monday. “If they can’t handle the job, it’s time to look at new alternatives.”

I’m so old that I remember when people like me were ridiculed when we warned that socialist policies like Obamacare would eventually lead to full-blown socialism. But look here, after only 10 years the mayor of America’s largest city is proposing precisely that: government takeover of a major industry. With nary a passing acknowledgment of politicians’ role in creating the shortages…that led to the shutdowns…that generated the outrage.

As if roadblocking and fighting the building of new power “fossil fuel” or nuclear generation plants, while simultaneously demanding the shutdown of existing nuclear and coal plants, had nothing to do with peak load energy shortages. It’s hard to power 21st century growth with only 75% of 20th century power plants plus wind and solar farms. Then again math and science are not the strong suits of progressives.

Would you like a little taste of what will happen if Mayor de Blasio gets his wish and actually does “take over” ConEd? You need look no further than Detroit, a city where streetlights and stoplights have been lit exclusively by the Detroit Public Lighting Company for decades. When the Democrat run city ran into financial trouble, the streetlights

and stoplights stopped working.

In many neighborhoods it remained the responsibility of business and home owners to provide whatever public lighting there was.

Because the Detroit Public Lighting Department (DPLD) had received no revenue for electricity from the city for years it had no funds to maintain the 100 year old electric system. One by one the lights began to go out due to neglect. By the time Detroit was forced into bankruptcy the DPLD was running a $30 million/year deficit. When the state stepped in to clean up (i.e., pay for) the mess Kevyn Orr was appointed the city’s Emergency Manager and given broad cost cutting powers.

He asked DTE Energy (Detroit Edison, who owns and operates the rest of Detroit’s metropolitan electric grid) to take over the mismanaged and dilapidated DPLD. While DTE agreed to provide DPLD's 115 customers at 1,400 sites in Southeast Michigan with electricity services as part of a gradual wind-down process, they refused to assume the assets of the old DPLD, presumably due to liability issues:

The 100-year-old PLD system has not received any investment in nearly a decade, and the city of Detroit has been operating it at a loss for some time…DTE said it will not assume PLD's assets because of the poor condition of the city's electricity distribution and transmission grid. - Crain’s Detroit

And yes, Detroit’s street lights slowly came back on. With a $185 million Obama era energy saving program to replace them with LEDs. How’s that working out for them?

A few years ago, the city of Detroit finished installing 65,000 "light emitting diode" (LED) street lights in an effort to cut costs and pollution as well as increase safety. The new lights were part of a $185 million package meant to improve the city and were encouraged by President Obama's Department of Energy. But three years later in 2019, thousands of these bulbs are now needing replacement when the city expected them to last until at least 2027.  - Townhall

Do we need to know anything else about  Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds?

FYI, the book is divided into 3 sections: “National Delusions,” “Peculiar Follies,” and “Philosophical Delusions,” everyone of which is on display in this little fable.

If It Seems Easy You’re Doing It Wrong

Tucker Carlson won yesterday’s “best display of the Left’s hypocrisy” award – an award that could be given on an hourly basis if anybody had time to review all the entries.

Tucker created a montage of righteous Democrats proclaiming, angrily, that “nobody is above the law.” He then pointed out that Dems are doing precisely that by insisting that illegal aliens (as they are known to the non-woke crowd) should be allowed to stay in this country regardless of when or where they came from. It’s okay for them to break the law because the Empathatic Left has determined, without benefit of Congressional legislation, that the law is “unjust” and therefore does not apply. Which is pretty much the definition of being “above the law.”

Runner-up prize goes to Bernie Sanders for paying his staff a “living wage” of $15 an hour while simultaneously cutting their hours in order to afford it. There’s an economic lesson in there somewhere Bernie, it wouldn’t hurt if you tried to figure it out.

And while it’s not yet Liberal Loon Award day I’d still like to give honorable mention to Rashida Tlaib for her contribution to the Economic Illiteracy pool with her well thought out recommendation of raising the wages of tipped employees from $2.13 per hour to “$18-20” per hour.

“Think about that for one minute. People cannot live on those kind of wages, and I can’t allow people to be living off tips, you know, relying on tips for wages. It’s just not enough to support our families…

“Now I think it should be $20 — make sure America Rising hears that,” she continued. “It should be $20 an hour — $18 to $20 an hour at this point. … They say all of this is going to raise the cost, but I can tell you, milk has gone up, eggs have gone up, everything has gone up. The cost of a lot of things that we need has gone up already.

How this trained union rabble-rouser ended up in Congress is a travesty of self-governance.

Tied with Rashida for the same award and for the same reason is Kamala Harris. She upped the ante on the Medicare-for-all scam by contending that she will fund the $30 trillion single-payer national health-care program - without raising taxes on the middle class. Honestly, these liberal arts legislators – with or without law degrees - are so ignorant of rudimentary math and economics it’s no wonder they can’t live on their nearly $200K salaries.

Fact: Grain Bowls Come From Amber Waves of Grain

Image result for amber waves of grain

I wake up every Monday saying to myself “let this be the week the Leftists see the light and abandon their path to oblivion.” It’s more like a prayer to St. Jude (patron saint of lost causes) than a genuine inquiry. To date my appeal remains unmet by either St. Jude or the Left.

This week’s evidence that their suicidal insanity continues unchecked comes from David Atkins, a Californian regional director for the Democratic Party and a Bernie Sanders supporter. He chose to follow in the cement footsteps of Hillary Clinton, attacking the hand that feeds him - talk about a lack of gratitude!

And just for good measure he threw in a gratuitous slam at Fox news viewers as well, wherever they hail from:

I don’t really think any additional comment is necessary, other than to say this is why Democrats will continue to lose. You can read the whole thread if you’d like, but I leave the last word to JP McKee who pretty much sums up my sentiments with this tweet:

Hang In There, Nuclear Winter Is Right Around the Corner

Here it is, July:

Image result for hazy hot and humid

And the country is plunged into a lot of hazy, hot and humid weather. I predict that August will bring more of the same.

Summer in the northern hemisphere is often unbearable especially in the deep south and the concrete heat traps of urban centers. Or at least it was unbearable before Willis Carrier invented the air conditioner in July of 1902. Ironically it was invented not to make us more comfortable but rather to make us more productive. Carrier was called in to figure out how to allow a printing factory in Buffalo, NY to continue operations when temperature/humidity levels prevented ink from adhering to paper without smearing. Industry was the mother of his invention not creature comfort. We are just collateral beneficiaries.

Among the many great inventions of the 20th century all but the most brainwashed warmists laud air conditioning as one of the most important. Aside from fire nothing has allowed mankind to adapt to their environment more effectively than air conditioning. We can now be productive 12 months a year, 24 hours a day. Ironically, “progressives” are the ones who want us to shut down if not outright reverse that progress.

Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered tall office buildings across the city to crank their thermostats up to 78 degrees beginning Friday as a much-feared heat wave approaches this weekend.

“We are about to enter a heat emergency, and must do all we can to keep New Yorkers safe,” said Mayor de Blasio. “The City government is limiting its energy use to reduce strain on the electrical grid, and now private office buildings will also have to do their part.” - NYPost

De Blasio didn’t mention that the grid was in danger of overload due to electric companies’ emphasis on “alternate energy” sources like solar and wind instead of big load power generation – primarily because of jackass dictates from politicians like de Blasio. Whether they have the power to do so or not.

The thermostat dictate came a day after a Post reporter asked de Blasio if he had the authority to issue such an order with the approaching near-triple-digit heat — and Hizzoner said he didn’t know.

Not having authority - never a problem for progressives.

Image result for obama pen and phone Only a problem for a President they don’t like.

Hat’s off to Willis Carrier, we wouldn’t be the same country, or world, without his invention. Although I’m sure there will be reports that the ingenious invention was actually created on the backs of women, people of color and transgenders who never got so much as a whiff of credit because…white man’s patriarchy.

My advice, enjoy these lazy, hazy days of summer to the hilt.

We will find ourselves in the grip of nuclear winter soon enough. And there’s nothing either the Lord de Blasio or M’Lady Ocasio-Cortez can do to stop it.
