failed. So constitutional order remains wobbly, human rights and freedoms remain subjugated to Islam, the rule of law continues to be subjugated to sharia and general security threatened. Obama is pleased the Islamic autocrat has triumphed. Birds of a feather, so to speak, although apparently not water proof.

Some have suggested that Erdogan orchestrated the coup himself, in order to give more legitimacy to his regime and allow the acceleration of the conversion of Turkey from a democratic parliamentary government to an Islamic presidential regime. And possibly set up the New Ottoman Empire with Erdogan the leader of the New Caliphate. That could mean war.
