If, after yesterday’s historic first, last press conference of the First Term, you still doubt that Big Guy is this generation’s “great communicator” you still don’t get it.
You must still be hung up on last century’s model of a “great communicator” – someone whose convictions were based on the solid values that made America great and who spoke his mind and convictions simply, directly and honestly.
You really need to get with the program: this is the 21st century! The new “great COMmunicator” model also speaks his mind and convictions simply, directly, albeit a bit dishonestly.
Because, honestly, you can’t win hearts and minds with the simple truth anymore; not when your enlightened convictions are based not on the simple, outdated “American” values butt rather on the postmodern, post-American values of social justice and sustainability. For that level of sophisticated communication we need…well, propaganda.

You’re probably still stuck in the old, white-guy way of thinking about what makes for a “great communicator:” someone who can educate people by presenting facts simply and truthfully in terms they understand. Again: that’s so last century. Today’s great communicator has a much greater challenge: he has to educate people on the “correct” truth – which is to say, his truth. This new communication model is much more demanding as it requires a constant flow of newly minted “facts” that better illustrate the “correct” truth;
while simultaneously suppressing many of those old, outdated myths and stories that get in the way of the new truth.
I think Big Guy stands a good chance of educating his minions in his new “correct” truth. At least the entire Main Stream Media Complex remains enlightened enough to assist him in his endeavor. Ronnie never had that going for him.
So, here’s a little test to see if you’re getting with Big Guy’s new “great communicator” program. Yesterday, when BHO told the American people that Congress has two choices - either raise the debt ceiling or give him the authority to do so - and spelled out his terms for “negotiation;”
“I will not have that conversation with a gun at the head of the American people,”
Did you understand that what he was really “communicating” was that he intends to take all those guns out of your hands? If your answer was “yes” move to the head of the class.
If your answer was “no” will you at least try to get with the program!? Sheeze, it’s the 21st century, you know.
I vote we return to the values of the 20th. Does that make me a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal? So be it.
…I won a nickname, 'The Great Communicator.' But I never thought it was my style or the words I used that made a difference: It was the content. I wasn't a great communicator, but I communicated great things, and they didn't spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation -- from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in principles that have guided us for two centuries.
