Throwback Thursday

When drsarabi posted her towns’s (Alton, Illinois) excellent response to a lip-synch challenge yesterday it reminded me of an old post I did on my hometown’s lip dub. It was filmed on May 22nd, 2011 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and by all accounts its 5000 participants set a new lip-synch world record.

“This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a ‘dying city.’ We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's ‘American Pie,’ a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope." - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer

Since I have to  take my car in this  morning for an IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL - and if I don’t we’re ALL GOING TO DIE or something - I’m reposting it again hoping it gets your day off to a good start.

So grab your coffee and take a tour of my hometown’s downtown…

By the way, USA TODAY named Grand Rapids the Best Beer Town in America in 2014. So once again it would seem that Newsweek is fake news: GR’s demise was greatly exaggerated.

P.S. Around the 5:00 mark you can see my old high school’s cheer squad. Go CC Cougars!!
