Today’s post is dedicated to Phyllis Schlafly.
A great lady and a great conservative who let her intellect and conscience be her guide. How quaint.
Schlafly took many unpopular positions in her life, beginning with her anti-feminism stance:
While many of Schlafly’s positions were out of step with the cultural “mainstream” her bravest position may have come last December when she announced her support for a Donald Trump presidency long before his candidacy was a fait accompli and when no other “bona fide” conservative would touch him.
“He does look like he’s the last hope [for America],” Schlafly said. “We don’t hear anybody saying what he’s saying. In fact, most of the people who ought to be lining up with him are attacking him. They’re probably jealous of the amount of press coverage he gets. But the reason he gets so much press coverage is the grassroots are fed up with people who are running things, and they do want a change. They do want people to stand up for America. It really resonates when he says he wants to ‘Make America Great Again.'” – WND
She endorsed Trump not because he’s a “true conservative,” he is not. Mrs. Schlafly was wise enough to understand that certain priorities like saving the Republic take precedent over ideology. And she was also wise enough to know that only a citizen patriot like Trump, as opposed to a career politician, would be in a position to beat the Establishment.
And she would know; Schlafly coined the term “kingmakers” in the mid-sixties to describe the Establishment donor class - “a select group of cosmopolitan elites who control the Republican Party and have historically determined the Party’s presidential nominee.” Fifty years later she endorsed the only man she saw who could take them on:
“Trump is the only hope to defeat the Kingmakers because everybody else will fall in line. The Kingmakers have so much money behind them.” Breitbart
She was right, again.
